100 Things to Put in Your Purse for Women Over 50

Believe it or not, what I carry in my purse now as a woman over 50 is quite a bit different than what I carried as a younger woman. My needs have changed, as well as my desire to be a pack mule and carry everything I could possibly need in my purse.

As a girl, my bag was filled with fun toys and trinkets; as a teen, it was filled with hairbrushes, makeup, and the tastiest Bonnie Bell LipSmackers I could find for the ultimate kissable lips.

In my early twenties, I also took on a less-is-more approach because I carried the tiniest bags I could find for heading out to clubs and hanging with friends. My most important items were my ID, cash, car keys, and maybe some lipstick.

Once I became a mom, my needs drastically changed, and I switched to a large bag to carry not only my essentials but also everything else my daughter (and husband) needed.

Now that I’m over 50, my needs have changed again, and I bet yours have, too. The video above lists the things I currently carry in my bags.

In this post, I’ll discuss the bags I currently carry and what’s in them. PLUS, I’ve compiled a list of the 100 things you may want to consider putting in your purse at this time of your life.

The Handbags I Use

Currently, I rotate between three different handbags, and they are all from Tory Burch. I’ve been a fan of Tory Burch for years because of their durability and timeless design. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but I find them worth every penny. They last a long time, which means I don’t have to replace them often. Recently, I had to replace one of my bags, so I ended up getting three new ones!

Here’s a breakdown of when I use each bag:

I’ve loaded everything into my large bag as if I’m heading out for a full day. Here’s what I carry:

1. Ice Breaker Sours: I love these sugar-free candies.

2. Cash: I keep a little bit of cash for emergencies.

3. Wallet: I recently downsized to a smaller wallet that fits in all my bags without adding bulk.

4. Photo Booth Picture: A sweet memory with my daughter from a fun day out.

5. Werther’s Originals: A nod to my parents, who loved these candies.

6. Space Pen: This special pen belonged to my mom and writes upside down.

7. Moisturizer: A versatile, unscented moisturizer for face, hands, and lips.

8. Christian Dior Lip Oil: Adds a touch of polish when I’m running errands.

9. iPad Mini: Great for reading, gaming, and jotting down notes with the pencil.

10. Planner: My absolute favorite item. I use a Hobonichi planner with a Liberty of London pattern cover. It’s my life organizer, holding everything from brainstorming ideas to daily to-do lists.

Planner Details

I can’t stress enough how much I love my planner. It’s a Hobonichi cover with a Sterling Ink planner inside.

Here’s why I adore it:

Layouts: It has various layouts, including monthly calendars, weekly spreads, and daily pages.

Grid Paper: The Tomoe River paper is super thin, making the planner lightweight despite having hundreds of pages.

Pen Loops: They keep everything secure without a snap closure.

Customizable: I use Zig Clear Dot markers for doodling and organizing my lists by color.

Inside My Smaller Bags

When I’m carrying one of my smaller bags, I streamline my essentials:

Phone and Keys

Wallet

Lip Gloss and Moisturizer

Cash

Ice Breakers or Gum

That’s it for my handbag essentials! I’d love to hear what’s in your bag.
