What to Wear to a Broadway Show
If you have the opportunity to attend a Broadway show, be sure to take it!
There’s nothing like seeing a live show especially one that includes celebrities and talent unseen anywhere else.
It’s exciting! After you get the tickets the next big question is “what am I going to wear?”
Is there a dress code for a Broadway show?
How should I dress for a Broadway theater?
Actually, there is no dress code for a Broadway show but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t plan your outfit for the event.
In this article I’ll cover what you wear to the theater whether you are seeing Hamilton, Phantom of the Opera, or Wicked.
What do you wear to the theater? Do you have to dress up for a Broadway show?
You can wear whatever you’d liked…but I’d like to mention most people wear business casual wear.
That includes whether you are going to a broadway show, a musical play, or an off Broadway show.
Since there’s so much to do in New York, lots of visitors make an event of it. They go out for drinks, then take in the show, and top it off with a late dinner.
So dress for a night on the town!
If you’re walking a lot (which is common when you’re in New York City), you may need to dress for comfort and that means sneakers or walking shoes.
It doesn’t mean you have to dress down.
Take the time to do your hair and makeup, add jewelry, and a pretty scarf to transform a basic outfit into something special.
Broadway Matinee vs Evening Show
There’s no doubt, matinee Broadway shows are more casual than evening shows - just as if you are having lunch or dinner with a friend.
Remember to put your best foot forward - a lunchtime meeting would be a bit more casual than meeting a friend for dinner but you’ll still want to look pulled together for both events. Do the same thing when visiting a Broadway show.
Tip: If it’s summertime, it may be 90 degrees outside but cool in the theater so don’t forget to bring a sweater.
Not sure what to wear, I’ve compiled some Broadway attire images so you know what to expect and wear when going to a show.
