Morning Walk Benefits

If you’re looking for an easy way to boost your energy, improve your mood, and even lose weight, try adding a morning walk to your daily regimen.

According to Healthline.com, walking daily provides the benefits previously mentioned. It can prevent or manage health conditions, strengthen muscles, improve mental clarity, help you sleep better at night, and make better health choices throughout the day.

Furthermore, a brisk morning walk is a great way to beat those daily goals if you like to see the Move and Exercise ring close on your Apple Watch.

What Do You Wear When You Go for a Walk?

If you’re new to daily walks or need a refresher, I’ve rounded up the most common questions people ask when starting a walking routine; there are lots of outfit ideas so you can be comfortable no matter if you are walking one mile or ten, as well as best shoes to get you started on your journey.

Can I wear jeans for a morning walk?

You can wear jeans when out for a morning walk, but many other options are more suitable for the occasion. There are several reasons why I recommend other options. Most jeans are made from cotton, which absorbs moisture rather than wicking it away.

If you tend to perspire, the denim will absorb the moisture making your jeans heavy, loose, and stretched out - not very comfortable for a walk. In addition, jeans have thick seams with heavy threads, which may cause chaffing on your inner thighs on certain jean styles.

Finally, if it’s a hot day, thick jeans are going to hold in the heat and not make you feel cool and comfortable.

Instead of jeans for a morning walk, choose some of the more suitable options below.

Should you wear a bra when walking?

Breasts, no matter the size, do require support when doing physical activities, and walking is no exception. Opt for a good support bra, tank or tee with built-in support, or a sports bra.

According to Shape.com, supportive bras will keep your breasts in place, minimize movement, maintain their shape and muscle, and keep them from bouncing about, which could cause sagging and muscle strain.

If you want to go braless, save it for when you’re lounging or relaxing at home.

10 Tips for a Successful Morning Walk

  1. Dress in layers so you can easily adjust to changing temperatures.

  2. Wear comfortable, breathable shoes with good support.

  3. Opt for moisture-wicking fabrics to keep sweat away from your skin.

  4. Wear a hat or visor to protect your face from the sun.

  5. Consider wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes.

  6. Wear bright or reflective clothing if you're walking in low light.

  7. Wear gloves and a scarf in cold weather to keep your hands and face warm.

  8. Choose clothes that provide a full range of motion so you can move comfortably.

  9. Don't forget to wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days.

  10. Carry a light backpack, crossbody, or belly bag to hold essentials like water, a phone, and keys.

Brighten Your Day With These 8 Bonus Walking Tips

  1. Take your dog! They will be just as happy as you (or more) to get out for a walk in the morning.

  2. Put on your favorite music. You can create a Spotify playlist filled with peppy songs to get you moving.

  3. Listen to a podcast. Podcasts are a great way to multitask while you walk - learn new things, stay up to date on the news, or get inspired.

  4. Practice mindfulness. Notice the here and now by paying attention to your steps and your breath.

  5. Walk with a friend. Not only will a friend be a good accountability partner for walking daily, but she will also provide companionship, good conversation, and make the time go by like lightning.

  6. Stop and smell the roses. Enjoy the things around you! Look at the flowers, critters walking on the path, the sky, the trees, and everything else that sparks interest along your journey.

  7. Change your route. If you’re walking daily, add interest by changing things up - take a different pattern or walk the route in the opposite direction.

  8. Track your steps/miles. Keeping track of how often you walk and how many steps/miles is a great motivator to track your progress and keep you walking daily.
