What Hand Does a Watch Go On For a Woman

Updated August, 2022

Watches are a style staple no matter if you are wearing a classic watch, a fitness watch, or an Apple Watch.

So, what wrist does your watch go on? This has been a long debated question…left handed watch vs. right handed. Also, does it make a difference which hand you wear your watch on if you are a male or female?

I’ll answer both questions (and more) in this blog post.

Which Hand Does a Watch Go On?

Your watch was designed to be worn on the LEFT-HAND.

  • This applies to both males or females.

  • It also is the correct way to wear it whether you are left-handed or right-handed.

Where you place your watch is the same in any of these scenarios.

Watches should be placed on the left wrist with the crown facing outwards towards the hand. That way, it is easy to access the crown and adjust the time, etc.

Why are Watches Worn on the Left Hand?

Watches were traditionally worn on the left hand because most people are right-hand dominate.

That is because 90% of the population is right-handed so watches have been designed to accommodate the majority.

Is it Okay to Wear Watch on Right Hand?

You can wear your watch on whichever wrist is more comfortable for you.

I’m left handed, but I still prefer to wear my watch on my left hand. However, I have many friends who prefer to wear it on their right hand.

Either option is acceptable.

In fact, the Apple Watch allows you to switch wrists to suit your preference. There are two ways to change the watch orientation. How to Change Your Apple Watch Orientation (from 9to5Mac).

Can You Wear a Watch with Long Sleeves

You can wear a watch with long sleeves. Watches are meant to be worn at the end of the sleeve or just underneath the sleeve and fitted against the skin.

Some women like to wear watches loose like a bangle or bracelet and in that case, it’s okay if the watch sits on top of the sleeve.
